Pronounced hyu-gah. Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word which is used to define a special moment of comfort, cosiness, or even well-being.

Foreword
Hygge what is it? and how to apply it, is a blog about Hygge and creating peaceful moments. There are entire books written on Hygge, as people try to better implement healthy habits and practises into their lives.
But Hygge is a feeling, it cannot be explained with words as it must be felt.
A cup of cocoa by the fire, dining by candle-light, laughing with friends over a glass of wine, hearing rain fall on the roof, reading your favourite book covered in warm blankets, smelling fresh bread through your apartment, slipping on cosy thick socks, these could all be described as Hygge.
You can create a feeling of Hygge by actively seeking peace and tranquillity and being present in a moment.
Some simple tips on how to apply Hygge:
– Take the time to step away from distractions like checking your phone
– Create a space that is peaceful to you.
– Bring something that will increase your comfort
– Do not let negative thoughts interrupt this moment.
– Notice what is around you. What can you see, hear or feel?
That is the beauty of Hygge it is different for everyone. It is an inner intimacy. What makes one of us feel safe and cosy and comforted, might not be the same for someone else.
The main undertone of Hygge is effortless relaxation and cosiness. So finding a way to increase comfort in your own life may be, creating a space in the home to relax, letting in more light, putting on comfortable clothing, remove things that stress you.
Allowing yourself to unwind and knowing slowing down is beneficial, is key.
Hygge in a way personifies the inner ability that the Danish and Norwegian people have to frame situations in a nice perspective. To seek out the good in a setting. If its dark light a candle, if it is raining pick up a book, make yourself comfortable.
